The son of Bulldogs great Steve Mortimer is on the verge of entering local politics.
Andrew Mortimer, a former lower grade player himself, stood on the Liberal Party ticket for Canterbury-Bankstown council in the Revesby Ward in last weekend’s local council elections.
Mortimer previously worked for the Bulldogs in sponsorship and has a university degree in commerce.

The Mortimer family is Bulldogs royalty, with Steve’s two brothers, Chris and Peter, also having long careers with the club – the trio famously helping the Dogs to premiership glory in the 1980s.
Steve, the first player to captain NSW to victory in a State of Origin series, is regarded as the best halfback in Bulldogs history.
Having the Mortimer name is certain to gain Andrew plenty of votes but he won’t know the result of the election for another couple of days until the votes are tallied.
“At this stage it looks like I am a 50/50 chance,” Andrew told Wide World of Sports.
