Club medicos decided surgery was the best course of action, giving Burns’ ankle a cleanout as it had suffered previous damage.
The former Panthers forward will take it easy for the next few weeks but is hoping to be fit in time for the trials.
The Parkes-born forward joined the Dragons this year after two seasons at Penrith and the 23-year-old is held in high regard by Dragons coach Anthony Griffin.
The injury is a setback in his preparation for 2022 – but hopefully not a major one.
