The Richmond Tigers have blasted the hundreds of protesters who hijacked Melbourne’s most famous war memorial yesterday afternoon, the Shrine of Remembrance.
Protesters in Victoria fighting to scrap mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations for the construction industry took their message to the war memorial, chanting “sacred ground” and “lest we forget”.
Shrine of Remembrance CEO Dean Lee described the protest as “very, very troubling.”
Now the Tigers have hit out, declaring they’re “disgusted” by the behaviour of the protesters.
“The Shrine of Remembrance partners the Richmond and Melbourne football clubs in the delivery of the annual Anzac Eve game,” the Tigers wrote on Twitter.

“The club is disgusted that today’s protest was staged at such a sacred place and those involved should be ashamed of their behaviour.

“The Shrine is an important place of reflection and education and should be treated with the respect it deserves.”

The Melbourne Demons replied to the tweet with: “The Shrine stands as a symbol of respect for the service and sacrifice of Australians and should always be treated as such.”
It’s understood more than 400 protesters attended the rally at the Shrine of Remembrance.
