Francesco Bagnaia’s future in MotoGP is up in the air after blowing three times over the legal blood alcohol limit following a car crash in Ibiza.
The factory Ducati rider could face a driving ban as a result that could see him off the road for up to four years.
What permutations that may have on his MotoGP career remain unclear, and Ducati is yet to comment on the matter.

The Italian reportedly recorded a 0.87mg/l blood alcohol reading, more than three times over the 0.25mg/l limit under Spanish jurisdiction.

“Last night I was in Ibiza with my friends for a party during this break from MotoGP,” the 25-year-old wrote on social media after the incident.
“We celebrated and toasted together for my victory at the Dutch GP. As I was leaving the disco at 3am, I was facing a roundabout when I ended up with the front wheels in a ditch without involving other vehicles or people.
“However, the alcohol test carried out by the police found that the blood alcohol level was higher than what is allowed by Spanish law. I am sorry for what happened; I am practically a nondrinker, and it was a serious carelessness that should not have happened. I apologise to everyone, and I can assure you that I have learned my lesson. Never get behind the wheel after drinking alcohol. Thank you.”
MotoGP is in the midst of a summer break and will resume at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix on August 5-7.
Bagnaia sits fourth in the championship with three wins to his name this season but has been blighted by four DNFs.
Earlier this year, he signed a contract extension with Ducati taking him through to the end of 2024.
