West Coast Eagles coach Adam Simpson says his side is “not making any excuses” for its performances this season after racking up yet another loss.
Despite an improved second-half performance, the Eagles were made to pay after conceding five unanswered goals in the opening term as Adelaide ran out 13. 10. (88) to 8. 9. (57) winners.
A solid second half, which saw West Coast outscore Adelaide by five goals to four, allowed it to avoid an AFL record eight-straight loss of 50-plus points, but Simpson wasn’t prepared to take any victory laps.

“You don’t want that, it’s just where it is at the moment so we need to own it. We’re not making any excuses,” he said of his team’s losing streak.
“That’s really disappointing, but that’s not particularly concerning me right now. There’s little things we’ve got to do to get that right. It’s just where we’re at.”
It was the Eagles’ eighth-straight loss, with its sole win of the season coming in round four against Collingwood, but Simpson did admit that his side had acquired “small wins”.
“I’m just trying to be balanced with this because we had some small wins today but we’re still a long way off,” he said.
“We’ve got to keep looking for that growth, keep looking for the players to improve and keep working on our game sense.
“We probably saw a little bit more spirit today and they were up for the fight in the second half.”
Both the Eagles and the Crows will enjoy a bye in round 13, before round 14 clashes against the Cats and Suns, respectively.
