Former Wests Tigers coach Mick Potter is reportedly set to take the reins of Canterbury for the remainder of the season.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports Potter will be asked to be the interim coach of the Bulldogs in the wake of Trent Barrett quitting his post on Sunday.
Potter is currently coaching the Mounties in the NSW Cup, but is believed to be preparing to join the Bulldogs before Friday’s clash with Wests Tigers.

He coached the Tigers for two seasons in his last stint as an NRL head coach. He played for the Bulldogs and won premierships at the club in 1984 and 1985, also winning a Dally M Medal at fullback.
His time at the Tigers came with controversy, as he fell out with club legends Benji Marshall and Robbie Farah.
It will be a tough return to NRL coaching for Potter. The exodus at Belmore has already begun in the wake of Barrett’s resignation.
Gun recruit Brent Naden suddenly quit the club on Tuesday to join the Tigers. Barrett’s high performance chief, Dan Ferris, also left following a discussion with Phil Gould.
In positive news for the embattled Bulldogs, prized 2023 recruits Viliame Kikau and Reed Mahoney have committed to honouring their contracts.
The managers of each player provided a statement to 9News reaffirming their commitment to the club from next season.
One of this year’s recruits, Tevita Pangai Jr, has no plans to follow Naden out the door.
“I’ve got three years here, and by the end of those three years we’ll be a powerhouse again,” he told Nine’s Danny Weidler.
“I love the club.”
