Jack Bird was cagey as he fielded questions about reportedly agreeing to a new deal with the Dragons, but the former State of Origin weapon declared his best days were ahead of him.
Bird is set to pen a fresh three-year contract to tie himself to St George Illawarra until the end of 2025, according to Nine’s Danny Weidler.
While the utility has already won an NRL premiership and made five appearances for New South Wales, he believes he could be set for his best footy because past years were hampered by injury.

“I haven’t played much footy in the last few years. I’ve been injured. So I haven’t really shown what I can do. I know personally that I still have a lot of footy in me,” Bird said.
“Whether anyone believes that or not, I do. I just know I can play better footy than I’m playing at the moment, and I’m ready to prove that.”
Bird played 66 first-grade games with the Sharks but had a torrid run on the injury front at the Broncos, managing just 17 matches over two seasons.
The 27-year-old has had a smoother run in the Red V.

“I’ve always been taught to never give up,” Bird said.
“So when those injuries happened I knew that I wasn’t done. I knew I had plenty more to give and knew I wasn’t going to give up. I’ve been in that position before.
“When I was a young fella I did an ACL and I had rheumatoid arthritis and got told I was never going to play footy again, and when I started playing again I knew could really stop me.”
