Ash Barty has revealed the two tennis rivals she most enjoyed competing against while on the WTA tour.
The three-time grand slam champion announced her retirement from the game in a bombshell on Wednesday at the age of 25.
She goes out on top, ranked the No.1 women’s player in the world and being the reigning Wimbledon and Australian Open winner, while also boasting the 2019 Roland-Garros title.
Speaking to Wide World of Sports’ 4BC radio on Thursday, Barty was asked by Peter Psaltis who she would miss playing against the most.
“I will definitely miss testing myself against Petra (Kvitova) and Simona (Halep),” Barty said.
“They were two of my favourites, two of my best mates and two people who were the very first to message me after the announcement came out.
“They’re just brilliant people. I am going to miss them.
“One day our paths will cross again, whether it’s down here in Australia or on their side of the world.
“I am going to miss that, but I will be watching… maybe. I’ll have to keep an eye on them and see what they do, but I know they’ve still got a few matches left in them for sure.”
