Former England coach Trevor Bayliss says he is yet to be approached to become Australia’s full-time men’s coach after Justin Langer’s departure earlier this month.
Bayliss had been one of the names linked to the head coaching role after Langer’s exit but told The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age that there had been “no contact” from Cricket Australia’s decision-makers.
The lack of communication with Bayliss further strengthens current interim coach Andrew McDonald’s chances of being appointed as the full-time coach.

Despite the recent upheaval in the coaches’ box, Australia is likely to have the same coaching structure under whoever Langer’s long-term successor is.
“Essentially what you’re after is trying to find the very best person for the role, and you want to keep them in there as long as possible,” Australia’s chairman of selectors, George Bailey, said on Tuesday ahead of the team’s tour to Pakistan.
“If that means that they don’t do absolutely every tour that’s fine.
“The three assistants, including Andrew as interim coach, have all had head-coaching experience.
“Even if you just looked internally, there are three guys there that could manage taking on head coach roles for specific tours if that was required.”
Bayliss had become one of the contenders for the role on the back of his strong success at the international level with both Sri Lanka and Pakistan over the last decade.
He was at the helm when Sri Lanka went to its third 50-over World Cup final back in 2011, before leading England to the 50-over World Cup in 2019.
The New South Wales native is currently a mentor for the Sydney Thunder in the BBL and has maintained that he’ll only return to another international job if it is to coach Australia.
Australia is set to depart for Pakistan in the coming days, with the first Test of the three-match series getting underway on March 4.
