Justin Langer’s future as Australia’s cricket coach remains unclear after Cricket Australia’s board deliberated all day without reaching a verdict.
The Cricket Australia board gathered at their headquarters in Melbourne on Friday morning, as speculation and discussion surrounding Langer’s tenure continued outside.
However, at the close of business, the group emerged without a decision, Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley delivering a brief statement to waiting media.

“Cricket Australia can confirm that the CA board met today and part of that meeting involved significant discussions about men’s head coach Justin Langer’s contract,” he said.
“We will now enter into confidential discussions with Justin and the outcome will be announced as soon as possible.
“We have no further comment until then.”
The delay is another dent in Langer’s case for reappointment after team leaders and senior players this week failed to publicly endorse an extension of his current four-year contract, which ends in June.
Other items up for deliberation by CA included the approval of Australia’s three-Test tour of Pakistan and the organisations next full-time chairperson.

It remains to be seen whether Langer will travel with the Australian squad next month.
Sources with knowledge of the situation have told the Herald and The Age newspapers that unless Langer is reestablished as coach he will stand down, with assistant coach Andrew McDonald indubitably named as interim coach for the series.
