South African great Dale Steyn has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.
Since retiring from Test cricket in 2019, Steyn, 38, has been focusing on limited-overs formats of the game.
The superstar fast bowler, who took 439 wickets in 93 Test matches for South Africa, last appeared on the international scene back in February 2020 during a T20 against Australia.
“Today I officially retire from the game I love most. Bittersweet but graceful,” Steyn wrote on Twitter.
“Thank you to everyone, from family to teammates, journalists to fans, it’s been an incredible journey together.”
Crowned the ICC 2008 Test Cricketer of the Year, Steyn was famously the No.1 bowler in the Test rankings for a record 263 weeks between 2008 and 2014.
“It’s been 20 years of training, matches, travel, wins, losses, strapped feet, jet lag, joy, and brotherhood. There are too many memories to tell,” he said.
