Australian rookie Josh Giddey has rocketed into NBA history, becoming the youngest player ever to record a triple-double.
Less than three months after his 19th birthday, Melbourne native Giddey achieved a feat he’d threatened several times already in his first season, putting up an incredible stat line against the Dallas Mavericks, with 17 points, 14 assists and 13 rebounds.
After pulling down his 10th rebound of the match Giddey was the toast of the NBA, eclipsing former NBL star and fellow young gun LaMelo Ball as the youngest player to achieve the rare statistical combination.

The record that Giddey now holds was previously owned by LeBron James, who set it as a teenage prodigy in 2005. Megastar James held the record so long it looked unbreakable, but since Lonzo Ball became the new owner in 2017 it has been broken a further four times.
After the elder Ball brother broke the record in 2017 it has been eclipsed by Luka Doncic, Markelle Fultz, the junior Ball brother and now Giddey.
The feat again proves the young Aussies credentials as a bona fide NBA superstar in the making, as he continues to shine in a young team that has the potential to grow into something special.
While Giddey put up arguably his best performance against the Mavericks it wasn’t enough to help his side to victory, with the Thunder going down 95-86.
They currently sit 13th in the western conference and are not a playoffs contender.
