Australia has retained the Ashes urn in the most stunning fashion, clinching a 3-0 series lead over England with two matches still to play.
The Aussies won by an innings and 14 runs at the MCG inside two and a half days.

Marcus Harris: Finally the score that will convince selectors to give him another run for the remaining two Ashes Tests this summer. His 76 was the top score of the match, and he had to fight hard for every run. Unfortunately his dismissal – nicking a James Anderson delivery to first slip – has become all too familiar for Harris. He’s still only passed 50 on three occasions in Test cricket. He will play in Sydney next week but his spot is far from cemented long-term. 8

David Warner: Copped a brute of a delivery from James Anderson that caught a thick outside edge and was taken by a good gully catch by Zak Crawley. He made 38 in a 57-run opening partnership with Harris. Warner also took two sharp catches at slip. 6.5
Marnus Labuschagne: The first time he has been out for less than 47 in the first innings of his last 15 Test matches. An incredible streak of scores came to an end with a disappointing 1, edging Mark Wood to first slip. He’s the newly minted No.1 Test batter in the world but even the best have their dips. One of only two Aussie batters not to reach double figures. 1
Steve Smith: Another batter to fall victim to the brilliance of James Anderson, with Smith inside edging a delivery onto his stumps for only 16. His wicket left Australia in a vulnerable position at 4-110. A failure by his lofty standards. 3
Travis Head: Put on a 61-run partnership with Harris, of which Head scored 27 off 48 deliveries. It was another start for the left-hander and another failure to convert that into a bigger score. It’s an issue that has become a theme of his Test career. 5
Cameron Green: Bowled tight in the first innings with figures of 1-7 off eight overs, troubling the England batters constantly. He got the key wicket of Ben Stokes in the first innings, then finished the match by bowling James Anderson. The all-rounder is still finding his feet with the bat and only managed 17 off 63 deliveries before being bowled by Jack Leach. His bowling is very good, batting needs some work. 6.5
Alex Carey: Took four catches for the match and contributed a handy 19 runs. He made one obvious error, and unfortunately it was the same error he had in Adelaide last week – hesitating and allowing a catch to sail between he and David Warner at first slip on Day 2. Still, he’s made a fantastic transition into the Test team and has otherwise been faultless. 6
Pat Cummins: It’s almost unbelievable he didn’t get a single wicket in the second innings. His bowling – alongside Mitchell Starc – in the final hour of play on Day 2 was nothing short of phenomenal. The England batters barely knew what to do with it. Cummins took three wickets and made 21 runs for the match but his influence stretched far beyond the stat sheet. 9
Mitchell Starc: Five wickets for the match but – like Cummins – his influence on this match can hardly be explained by those statistics. Starc was close to unplayable at the end of Day 2. He narrowly missed a Test hat-trick, claiming two in two balls and then missing Joe Root’s outside edge by a couple of centimetres. His unbeaten 24 with the bat was also important in the result. 9
Nathan Lyon: Bagged three wickets in the first innings and then wasn’t required to bowl in the second. England tried to go after the spinner and it resulted in Jos Buttler throwing his wicket away on Day 1. Lyon was then sent in as nightwatchman and made it through to stumps unbeaten. 7
Scott Boland: Not sure you could dream up a better Test debut than this one. Seven wickets for the match and 6-7 off four overs in the second innings to finish it off. Plus winning the Johnny Mullagh Medal on top of that, a brilliant moment for a proud Aboriginal cricketer. 9.5
