The New South Wales Rugby League has assured Brad Fittler will coach the Blues next year no matter the result of this Origin series.
Fittler is contracted to coach again in 2023, and will activate a clause to coach in 2024 if he wins one more series – this year or next.
But after losing game one in Sydney the Blues are in a precarious position, needing to tie the series in Perth and then win as underdogs in Brisbane to retain the shield.

NSWRL boss Dave Trodden, though, told the Sydney Morning Herald the coach is safe.
“What Freddy has delivered to our organisation since his appointment as coach has been nothing short of outstanding,” Trodden said.
“He’s delivered consistent success, and always had the self-confidence to do things his way. All I will say is, underestimate him at your peril.”
