Bulldogs football boss Phil Gould says he’s had “no applications” from anyone to take over as head coach at Canterbury despite rumours linking under-fire Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire to a shock switch.
Maguire’s future at the Tigers could be decided within the next fortnight as the club undertakes a mid-season review.
Nine and The Sydney Morning Herald’s Michael Chammas reports Tigers football boss Tim Sheens will conduct a review of the first half of the season, and in doing so, will make a recommendation to the board on how the football department should look moving forward.

Speaking on Nine’s 100% Footy, Chammas also confirmed whispers of a shock switch for Maguire, saying: “There’s talk that Michael Maguire – if he is to have coached his last game [at the Tigers], the rumours are that potentially the Bulldogs would be a good place for him.”
Gould was then queried by Chammas on whether the Bulldogs, who earlier this month parted ways with Trent Barrett, would look to Maguire’s services if he’s to depart the Tigers earlier than expected.
“I’ve had no applications for the Bulldogs’ job,” Gould responded.
“I have had no inquiries, nor have I spoken to anyone about it.
“Nor am I going to hurry to speak to anyone about. I can’t answer that question.
“Tim Sheens has been quoted a number of times this year, privately and publicly, saying he doesn’t see any reason to change the coach during the court of the season, the club doesn’t need the headlines at this stage.”
The Tigers, who haven’t played finals football since 2011, are staring down the barrel of another season without September action, sitting in 15th spot on the ladder with just three wins.
Gould said he and the club haven’t put any thought into who the club’s next head coach could be.
“No, I don’t know [who I want],” Gould added.
“I have given it no thought… just recovering from the fact our coach resigned, that’s what we’re doing.”
