Footage has emerged of the incredible moment Cody Simpson learned he had secured a spot in Australia’s Commonwealth Games squad.
The vision shows Simpson sitting in the stands with his partner, five-time Olympic gold medallist Emma McKeon, when he receives a message on his phone.
Upon reading the message, Simpson covers his mouth with his hands in shock before sharing an embrace with an overjoyed McKeon.

“It’s something unexpected that I had no idea would happen this soon into my swimming career,” Simpson said after his selection was confirmed.
“Two years ago if you’d told me I would be standing here right now, I’d probably punch you in the face or something, I wouldn’t believe it.”
While the 25-year-old will be joining the Dolphins squad in Birmingham in July, he will be absent at next month’s FINA World Championships in Budapest after Olympic gold medallist Kyle Chalmers backflipped on his decision to skip the event.
The relationship between Simpson and Chalmers has been one of the most interesting subplots of the Australian swimming championships over the past week, and Chalmers was absent from the announcement of the Commonwealth Games squad.
The swimming world championships will get underway on June 17 and run through to July 3, before the Commonwealth Games take place between July 28 and August 8.
