Is the Kevolution for real? That’s the burning question after the Broncos rattled off their third-consecutive victory to sit outside the NRL’s top four on points differential alone.
Brisbane’s stunning win against Souths was far more comprehensive than their round one victory against the same opponents, outscoring the home side by 14 after the interval – leading Souths coach Jason Demetriou to call the second half his side’s ‘worst of the season’.
But coach Kevin Walters isn’t getting carried away – at least not yet.

“We’re not going over the top, it’s just a nice feeling,” he said afterwards.
“Particularly happy for Adam [Reynolds] as well, coming back here – he missed round one because of COVID and we’re really happy for him.”
But it wasn’t just Reynolds, who played brilliantly, that was key to this victory. For the past two weeks, Brisbane’s line speed has been relentless, throwing off both the Rabbitohs’ and Sharks’ attacks that in other games, have had no problems scoring points.
“Our defence has been heavily criticised last year, and rightly so – and it was a real focus for us through the pre-season,” Walters said.
“Having guys like Adam, and Kurt [Capewell] didn’t play tonight, but he’s been a big advocate for us defensively, so a lot of work they do has rubbed off on other team members, coaches and everyone.
“That’s been a godsend for us.”

And while Reynolds will no doubt have relished playing a starring role against his old club, he played it cool when asked about it afterwards.
“The fact that we’re getting better as a team is more important than my own performance out here tonight, or anything that’s been written in the headlines,” he said.
“I’m just excited about the last three weeks, and what we’ve been building. I couldn’t be prouder.”
