Collingwood young gun Jack Ginnivan was reportedly reprimanded by the club’s leaders in the wake of his Anzac Day heroics, after an ill-advised outing with friends.
According to SEN’s Sam Edmund, Ginnivan went out to celebrate his Anzac Medal-winning performance after the match, having “a few beers” at a local pub before returning home without incident.
However, Collingwood’s leaders weren’t too impressed by the 19-year-old’s move, especially with only a six-day turnaround between the Anzac Day clash against Essendon and its next game against the Gold Coast Suns.

“His senior teammates, keen to maintain standards, told him they didn’t want him out and drinking on a short break between games,” Edmund reported.
“There was never any threat of a fine or any other form of punishment, but Ginnivan was advised to pick his social moments carefully.
“Collingwood’s approach to its extroverted goal-sneak teeters on allowing him to express himself as an individual and not going overboard.
“It is said that a key part of Craig McRae’s coaching philosophy involves encouraging each player’s individuality – so long as that player fulfils their role for the team, remains engaged and prepares properly.”
Ginnivan’s outing with his friends did not have a significant impact on his performance against the Suns, with the forward kicking three goals in the Pies’ 25-point win.
The youngster ranks first among AFL rising stars for goals this season with 14, as well as top-five ranks in score involvements (second), goal assists (fifth) and inside 50 marks (third).
