Bulldogs general manager of football Phil Gould says the team must show more than just spirit if they’re to spring a big upset on the Rabbitohs in their Good Friday clash.
Speaking on Wide World of Sports’ Six Tackles with Gus podcast, Gould batted away praise from host Mat Thompson who observed that the Bulldogs were “playing for each other” despite sitting 15th on the ladder.
“That’s a given. Trying hard and not giving up, they’re good qualities but it’s a given, that’s what you should be doing when you’re an NRL player,” Gould said.

“That’s the bare minimum, obviously they’ve got to sort their football out both in attack and defence.”
He added that South Sydney would be hard to beat even with last year’s grand finalists staring down another extended stint without injured star Latrell Mitchell.
“They went through last season without Latrell and made it to the grand final,” Gould said.
“It’s not as though they haven’t learnt to do it. Blake Taaffe’s a very good player and Cody Walker’s the ingredient there.”
Gould and Thompson both tipped the Bulldogs to win, as did their Nine colleagues Andrew Johns and Billy Slater.
