Geelong coach Chris Scott has agreed to a new three-year deal but the club is “not quite sure what’s happening”, Caroline Wilson reports.
Scott had already been contracted to the Cats until the end of 2022, but Wilson believes the premiership-winning mentor is now linked with the club until the end of 2025.
Despite that, Wilson cast doubt over Geelong’s future and said she would not be surprised if Scott departed before the end of his new contract.

“My understanding is quite certainly that Chris Scott has now signed a new three-year deal with the Geelong Football Club,” Wilson said on Nine’s Footy Classified.
“He will coach them until 2025 unless one of the parties changes their mind.
“I think Craig Kelly, his manager, wanted a longer-term deal. These negotiations were happening when (former chief executive) Brian Cook and (incumbent president) Craig Drummond were running the club. Now it’s Steve Hocking and president Craig Drummond.”
Geelong have in recent years gone on a major recruitment drive in a bid to win their first AFL premiership since 2011.
The Cats secured prized recruits Isaac Smith, Shaun Higgins, Jeremy Cameron and Jack Steven across the 2019 and 2020 trade periods.
The club’s failure to win a premiership despite the considerable addition of star-studded personnel has led to many wondering if it should commit to a rebuild.
“I don’t think they can even predict where they’re going, but I don’t think they’re super bullish about this season,” Wilson said.
“I would not be surprised if Chris Scott decides to move on.”
Geelong will meet Essendon at the MCG in round one on Saturday.
