Australia have suffered a shock defeat at the hands of South Korea in the Asian Cup, via a wondergoal from Ji So-yun in the dying minutes.
The Matildas dominated the possession and chances but Ji’s late screamer, just the second goal Australia had conceded in the entire tournament, was enough to give her side a 1-0 win.
It’s a dreadful result for Australia, who saw this tournament as a huge chance to make a statement ahead of hosting the World Cup next year.

“It’s a disaster and it’s a failure,” Andy Harper said on the broadcast afterwards.
Cho So-hyun could have given South Korea a first-half lead but failed to convert from the spot, after VAR had intervened to award the underdogs a penalty.
The game was getting spicy during the second half as the Matildas had multiple penalty shouts of their own turned down.
Coaches Tony Gustavsson and Colin Bell traded verbal barbs on the sidelines – the former calling for officials to intervene and give the latter a red card over something that was said.
Australia pushed and pushed in the second half as South Korea sat deeper and deeper, and they couldn’t have asked for a better chance than the one that fell to Kerr with less than 15 minutes to go.
The country’s all-time top scorer found herself with an open goal from 10 yards, but inexplicably scuffed her shot wide.
She looked on in disbelief, but it was nothing compared to the sucker punch that would come up the other end.
The pressure was cranked up another notch as the board went up for five minutes of stoppage time, but Kerr miss-hit another finish which rolled wide, as Australia tumbled out of the tournament.
