Something unexpected generally tends to happen whenever Nick Kyrgios steps onto a tennis court.
For one young fan today, he certainly got more than he bargained for when he turned up to watch Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis play doubles on Kia Arena.
It was midway through the first set when Kokkinakis served a fault. The ball bounced towards Kyrgios, who whacked it into the court in frustration.

He hit it so hard, though, that the ball bounced up into the grandstand and hit a young boy.
“I think that may have hit someone incredibly hard,” the commentator said.
“It was a young fan who’s just copped the full force of that and wasn’t expecting it.
“That’s unfortunate. What’s Kyrgios going to do?”
As the boy tried his best to hide the pain, Kyrgios paused the game to go to his kit bag and pull out a brand new racquet.
He walked to the edge of the playing area and passed it up into the crowd as an apology to the young fan.

“It was coming in quick. That ball took off into the crowd and I don’t think anyone was expecting it.
“I think he’s OK, I think he will recover.”
