Of all the people you would expect to leap to Novak Djokovic’s defence, Nick Kyrgios would be well down the list.
The Australian tennis ace has long been a Djokovic critic, even calling him a “tool” last year after the Serbian superstar provided Australian Open organisers with a list of suggestions to improve quarantine conditions.
But as Djokovic controversially remained “locked up” in a modest Melbourne hotel, Kyrgios took to Twitter to slam the treatment of the 20-time grand slam champion.

“Look I definitely believe in taking action, I got vaccinated because of others and for my mums health, but how we are handling Novak’s situation is bad, really bad,” Kyrgios wrote.
“Like these memes, headlines, this is one of our great champions but at the end of the day, he is human. Do better.”
Kyrgios had previously criticised Djokovic for his behaviour during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to the Serb declaring that “I don’t have much respect for him.”
