Usman Khawaja will make his return to the Test team for the Sydney Test, while Australia will give Josh Hazlewood more time to recover, skipper Pat Cummins confirmed.
Speaking to reporters this morning, Cummins said that Scott Boland would retain his place in the side, as Australia resisted the temptation to bring in a second spinner in Mitchell Swepson.
Khawaja’s inclusion was all-but-guaranteed a few days’ ago when Travis Head tested positive to COVID-19 and was ruled out of the contest.
The pair had battled for that coveted number five spot in the batting line-up, with Head getting the nod and immediately rewarding the selector’s decision, with a man of the match performance in Brisbane.
