Cricket Australia boss Nick Hockley has become the latest figure to test positive to COVID-19 as the virus continues to cut a swathe through the Ashes.
Hockley has mild symptoms and has had no interaction with the players contesting the series, which should limit disruption to Wednesday’s fourth Test at the SCG.
“After experiencing mild symptoms, I immediately got a PCR test which has since returned a positive result. I am isolating at home with my family, who have returned negative results,” Hockley said in a statement released just before noon.

“Over recent days, we have seen cases in relation to the Australian men’s Ashes team and some of the BBL teams. It is a reminder of the complexity COVID-19 presents for major sporting events and the importance of being vaccinated, getting a booster as soon as possible, and getting tested as soon as symptoms present themselves.”
Hockley’s diagnosis is yet another warning shot following the close contact debacle that ruled Australian captain Pat Cummins out of the second Test and the subsequent positive case that ruled batsman Travis Head out of the upcoming fourth Test.
England have also faced huge obstacles due to COVID-19, with several members of the touring party, including head coach Chris Silverwood, contracting the virus.
