Canadian superstar Denis Shapovalov is in doubt for the upcoming ATP Cup in Sydney after testing positive for COVID-19 upon arrival in Australia.
The No.14 ranked Canadian was among the first players to arrive in Sydney and was scheduled to compete in next month’s ATP Cup.
Shapovalov, 22, took to Instagram this morning to confirm the news while revealing he’s “experiencing minor symptoms”.

“Hi everyone, just wanted to update you that upon my arrival in Sydney, I tested positive for Covid,” Shapovalov wrote.
“I am following all protocols, including isolation and letting the people who I’ve been in contact with know.
“Right now I am experiencing minor symptoms and look forward to getting back on the court, when it is safe to do so.
“Thank you in advance for your support and wish you all a safe and happy holiday.”
The ATP Cup is currently scheduled to be held from January 1-9 in Sydney.
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic‘s participation at the Australian Open appears in doubt after the Serbian superstar pulled out of the ATP Cup.
The 34-year-old’s withdrawal means his availability for the Australian Open is more complex.
The Australian Open isn’t scheduled to start until January 17, but a Victorian state-enforced COVD-19 vaccine mandate has put pressure on the 20-time Grand Slam winner’s availability, who to date has refused to reveal his vaccination status.
