England have had insult added to injury after being well beaten in the first Ashes Test, suffering a heavy penalty for slow over-rates.
The visitors were fined 100 per cent of their match fee and penalised five World Test Championship points.
“Match referee David Boon has also penalised England 100% of their match fee for falling five overs short of the targets after adjusting for time allowances,” a statement from the ICC read.

“Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel charges players 20% of their match fee for every over the team falls short on.”
England players weren’t the only ones to cop a fine.
Australian man of the match Travis Head was docked 15 per cent of his match fee after an audible obscenity was picked up by the stump microphones.
It’s the second time this year England have faced a penalty for going too slowly. Back in August, both they and India were slugged two points during their Test at Trent Bridge.
The penalties come after a brutal loss on the field, with England beaten inside three and a half days.

“Yeah it was frustrating, we obviously knew how important that first hour was in particular,” captain Joe Root said after day four.
“It was really important that we got there unscathed and unfortunately losing those three wickets ahead of that was bitterly disappointing because we had put a lot of good work in last night.
“Credit to Australia taking every chance that’s come their way, and I can’t say the same thing about ourselves.”
