Supercars boss Sean Seamer has announced his resignation as chief executive of the sport.
Seamer, who has been under fire in recent times over his handling of the new generation of cars, as well as a communication breakdown between the governing body and the teams, will quit in the middle of 2022, having been in charge since late 2017.
“The last two years have been tough for everyone, but with young kids, it’s time for us to be closer to family,” he said in a statement.

“It is for that reason that I have decided to resign as CEO of Supercars. I will be taking up a new role in the US, details of which will be announced early in the new year.”
The Gen3 cars were originally expected to be introduced in 2021, a date that has now been revised three times, most recently to 2023.
Supercars held a crisis meeting in May with disgruntled team owners over the implementation of new cars.
In October Supercars was sold to a new group called Racing Australia Consolidated Enterprise (RACE), with private equity firm Archer Capital selling its majority shareholding in the sport.
“To navigate a pandemic and deliver two championship seasons, sign a new broadcast agreement, sign a new naming rights partner, complete the sale of the business and launch the Gen3 Supercar is something we should all be proud of,” Seamer said.
“The result of this is a business and sport that it is very much on track. Just last weekend at Bathurst we saw how strong this sport remains.
“The future remains bright.”
Seamer said the sport is well positioned to grow in 2022 and beyond.
“The new owners are the set up to take this sport to the next level. I know many of the people involved well, and count some of them as lifelong friends. I can assure you they share the same care and passion for Supercars as all of us,” he said.
“I will remain as CEO until the middle of next year and will remain on the board for the duration of 2022 to ensure a seamless transition and ongoing continuity.”
