Australia’s women’s rugby sevens team has won its first back-to-back cup final since 2017 with a win over Fiji at the Dubai Sevens this weekend.
Australia prevailed 15-5 over Fiji while their men’s counterparts won silver in their first Dubai Cup final appearance since 2014.
Charlotte Caslick starred once again for Australia in the final, and was named the player of the tournament, while Faith Nathan was named the best on ground in the final after scoring a try.

“We had one goal in our mind coming into this weekend, which was to back-up, that’s exactly what we did so I couldn’t be more proud of the group for achieving that,” Australian captain Demi Hayes said in a statement.
“We’ll now be turning our attention to Spain, looking to keep the consistency we’ve developed here in Dubai and continue this run into the new year.
“It was terrific to have a full crowd back in Dubai this weekend. The atmosphere, the vibe, the noise was incredible.

“We haven’t played in front of a crowd since our last Sydney 7s, so it’s incredible to have supporters here on the ground as well as watching back home.
“It’s a great time for Rugby Sevens at the moment, with both of our teams making the finals, and I’m excited to see how far we can go.”
