Young gun Aussie leg-spinner Georgia Wareham is facing significant time in the casualty ward after suffering a serious knee injury during a WBBL game.
The 22-year-old dropped to the ground while fielding for Melbourne Renegades during their loss to the Adelaide Strikers on Wednesday afternoon.
Cricket Australia today confirmed Wareham ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament. It’s an injury that typically requires surgery and can sideline athletes for more than nine months.
“Georgia has sustained a left knee ACL injury; she had an ACL rupture on the same knee at the age of 14 whilst playing AFL which was reconstructed using a synthetic (LARS) ligament,” Australian team doctor Pip Inge said.

“Whilst in the field yesterday she had an instability episode of the left knee resulting in a rupture of the graft.
“As a result she will be unavailable for the remainder of the WBBL season. Cricket Australia and Cricket Victoria medical staff are working in consultation with Georgia on the longer term management plan.”
Wareham has cemented herself as one of Australian cricket’s brightest young stars and has already played one Test, 23 one-day internationals, and 35 T20 internationals for the country.
