NRL RIVALS CHASING SULI
Manly’s runaway freight train Moses Suli has overnight become one of the hottest properties in the game after his man of the match performance against Canberra last weekend.
Suli ran for 201 metres – the biggest haul of his career – and was the difference in a tight struggle won 19-18 by the Sea Eagles.
Suli is contracted to Manly for 2022 but the club has given him permission to shop the market.
Up until last weekend, he seemed certain to link with the Dragons – but rival clubs were quick to notice his barnstorming display against the Raiders.
His manager Mario Tartak’s phone was running hot all weekend and suddenly, the 23-year-old centre is very much a man in demand.
THOMPSON TO STAY AT BULLDOGS
Bulldogs boss Phil Gould has met with star forward Luke Thompson and the pair have confirmed that – despite rumours to the contrary – he is going nowhere.
“Luke assured me he wants to remain a Bulldog,” Gould told Wide World of Sports.
“Despite the rumours, Luke has never been offered to other NRL clubs and the Bulldogs have not been active in trying to move Luke to another club.
“The Bulldogs were recently approached by an NRL club, wanting to buy out Luke’s contract.
“We simply passed this enquiry onto his manager for consideration.
“But he is happy and we want to keep him so case closed.”
MAGOULLIS ON NRL RADAR
There are few more talented and versatile forwards running around in the NRL than Billy Magoullis.
But the former Newtown cult hero can’t get a run at Cronulla – he got six minutes last weekend – and rival clubs are showing interest in grabbing him up.
Forwards who can work the ball are few and far between in the modern game – and Magoullis can also play hooker, back-row or five-eighth – making him a unique proposition.
He’ll be running around for a rival NRL club in 2022 – the only question right now is which one.
TIGERS SINK IN PLAYER MARKET
The poor old Tigers can’t take a trick at the moment.
Thumped by Cronulla last weekend in a loss that has all but ended their finals hopes, they are also struggling to attract new talent.
The club was keen to lure Bulldogs forward Luke Thompson (see above) but he knocked them back.
So too did promising Roosters back-rower Egan Butcher, who scored the opening try in the impressive win over the Dragons last weekend.
The Tigers had been chasing Butcher for some time but he and his brother Nat have both re-signed at the Roosters.
Tim Sheens WILL whip the Tigers into shape when he gets into town – but he is still stuck in the north of England trying to get a flight home.
