Nick Kyrgios has withdrawn from his scheduled match against Andy Murray at the Winston-Salem Open just minutes before he was due on court.
With fans already in place for the match, word filtered through that the Australian was out with a knee injury.
A lucky loser from qualifying would typically take Kyrgios’ place, however qualifying only has only just ended, complicating the situation further. American Noah Rubin took the place of the Australian, having lost a three-set qualifying match to Lucas Pouille less than an hour earlier.

The withdrawal continues a disappointing run for Kyrgios since he returned to the sport at Wimbledon in July.
He was forced to pull out midway through his third round match at the All England Club against Felix Auger Aliassime with an abdominal injury, before pulling out of the Tokyo Olympics.

The match against Murray was to have been a chance to end a three-match losing streak, having gone down to Cameron Norrie in Atlanta, Mackenzie McDonald in Washington and Reilly Opelka in Toronto.
