UPDATE: North Melbourne legend David King has hammered Carlton for prolonging the scrutiny of under-fire coach David Teague after club president Luke Sayers sent a letter to the members aimed at buying some time.
Speaking on SEN radio today, King slammed the letter as “propaganda” and said delaying a decision on Teague’s future risked turning members against the club.
“I feel so sorry for David Teague,” King said.
“You can argue injuries, you can argue that he prioritised offensive play rather than defensive play – but he thought he had time.
“Would he get a better defensive performance next year? One-hundred per cent he would. Would he be a better coach next year? He would.
“If you don’t think that he’s going to be as good a coach as someone else and you make that decision, that’s your role.
“That’s why you’re on the board, you’re there to make the tough calls for the betterment of the footy club, so do those but make them.
“This is crazy, so we’ve got to wait another week now?
“They can’t go back on that statement, it (Teague’s future) can’t be tomorrow because he (Sayers) has just said end of the week. How long do they need to make these decisions?
“If they need another week, they’re in the wrong jobs. They’re actually in the wrong jobs. When did the review land, was it two weeks ago? This is out of control. The members will turn.
“This letter to the members or this propaganda is crazy.”
King’s comments came after Teague was this morning summoned to Carlton for a meeting, along with fitness boss Andrew Russell and football boss Brad Lloyd.
That meeting was called after a broader meeting, scheduled for all players and staff, was cancelled.
There had been growing speculation that Teague would be sacked today, however the letter sent to the members by Sayers adjusted those expectations, rejecting calls for a decision to be made either way before a thorough process was allowed to play out.

“The club will take the necessary time required to absorb this review,” Sayers wrote.
“Any outcomes will be made on the timeframe that is in the best interest of the club, not based on external expectations or pressure.
“As always, I remain committed to continue being open and transparent with our members and supporters regarding any outcomes and decisions that will arise out of this review, including the summarised findings, and as such, once this process is complete, our members will be the first to know.”
