Parramatta weapon Maika Sivo’s season is likely over after suffering a suspected MCL injury in the Eels’ 32-16 win over the Cowboys
The Fijian had to be helped from the field early 25th minute after twisting his right leg twisted in an awkward tackle while starting an Eels set deep in Parramatta territory.
It’s undoubtedly a huge blow for the Eels’ top-four chances and title aspirations as coach Brad Arthur revealed his worst fears ahead of Parramatta’s upcoming finals campaign.
“I think they’ve said MCL,” Eels coach Brad Arthur told reporters at his post-match press conference.
“Obviously, he’ll need scans in the morning but we’re pushing it to get him back this year, I reckon.
“Fergo (Blake Ferguson) is back this week, so Fergo will come back onto the wing.”
Sivo crumpled on the turf of Cbus Stadium and lay motionless for some time as he was attended to by medics after the incident.
“Parramatta fans would hate to see the sight of Maika Sivo being assisted off, up into the dressing room,” said Nine commentator Mat Thompson.
Parramatta legend Peter Sterling added: “He gets twisted, it looks bad from the angle, the twist.”
NSW Blues coach Brad Fittler agreed.
“He looks in agony,” he said.
Sivo was spotted by cameras late in the game on the sidelines in crutches.
